I am very interested in the Charr, and am curious about their views on religion.
It says at the beginning of the Charr’s cutscene that they have destroyed their gods, yes? Did they truly destroy them, or did they simply shun them away? And either way, the main reason for turning away is because…
Technically, the Charrs never had gods. They knew of the existence of such entities, but did not worship them.
However, after the arrival of the humans and the repeated defeats of the charr legions against them, the charrs came to doubt: maybe the cause of the human dominance was the fact that they were assisted by their gods?
After centuries of unsuccessful war against the humans, a warband of the Flame Legion (then a High Legion as respected as the other four), came across powerful creatures that they soon presented to their fellows as the new gods that would bring victory to their people. These demonic creatures, the Titans, taught them new forms of magic, and their cult spread among the charrs. The only one to refuse to kneel before them was Bathea Havocbringer, and because of her refusal, the Shamans decided to kick all female charrs out of the army.
The Titans’ power did help the Charrs reconquer Ascalon over years of battle, until a group of humans managed to kill them, proving that they were no gods, and the ultimate victory of the charr legions over the human kingdom was accomplished after their demise. Unrest began, as the charrs began to question the supremacy of the Flame Legion and its Shamans. The sorcerers did try to present new gods to their people, the Destructors, that were in fact minions of the Elder Dragon Primordius, but Pyre Fierceshot’s revolt put a term to their power.
The reason for the current attitude of most charrs towards the Flame Legion, and in a lesser measure towards all magic-users, is that their magic is the heritage of the teaching of gods, whether they are “true” or “false”. Now the Charrs kneel for no god. They take pride in being the source of their own power, relying for example on machinery and technology.
The position of the Charrs towards the divinities of other races is generally despise and distrust. They might still hold hard feelings against the human gods, as they were considered responsible for the loss of the charr territories centuries ago, but it’s more that they think that relying on a divinity rather than on yourself is a weakness. But to our knowledge, they do not seek to destroy them.
I hope I answered some of your questions but if you are not too afraid of reading lenghty texts and want to know more about the charr civilization, I would advise you to consult the Ecology of the Charr, on the wiki ^^
I love the Fern Hounds! Not only are they marvellous looking but their animations are very natural (pun intended).

I’ve been trying to figure this out. It’s because they essentially created The Nightmare Court. That’s what it is.
Woooow there, aren’t you making kind of a huge shortcut here?
I’m not saying that Asuras aren’t vicious little babes, because they obviously are and have been thus since GW1, but you cannot say that the whole race is responsible for the Nightmare Court.
From what we learn through interviews with GW2 writers, most notably Jeff Grubb, Ree Soesbee and Angel McCoy, the only sylvari who was captured and tortured by the asura was the First-Born Malomedies, future luminary to the Cycle of Night. He was one of the first to venture out of the Grove and was indeed caught by asuras. They thought he was some new kind of mutant plant from Maguuma and did experiments on him. I remember reading somewhere that the krewe that did this was led by Kudu, who would later found the Inquest. Other asuras discovered that he was experimenting on a sentient being, stopped him and gave back Malomedies to his people, with their deepest apologies.
So, that makes Kudo a horrible individual, and I do hope we get to kill him for messing with Malomedies (and probably breaking Snaff’s heart, as he was his apprentice) but it still does not make him the responsible for the Nightmare Court, “only” for the Inquest.
‘Cause if you read carefully the “Dream and Nightmare” blog entry, you’ll also see that Malomedies’ return is not the event that acted as a trigger for Cadeyrn. He was indeed distressed by it, but it’s not why he departed the Grove. He stayed for a while after it by the way. To me, if there are people to blame, it might be the Pale Tree herself, who did not answer his questions, and in a small measure Caithe, whose final words to Cadeyrn cristallised his jealousy toward the First-borns.
Plus, the asura are not the only one to mistreat the races they consider inferior. Think of the way the norns treat the grawls. They permanently mock their religion and don’t hesitate to trick them with false idols. It also appears that humans have once again enslaved the dredges to dig for them, and that we might have to fight to free them.
So all that does not make the asuras into the cute little pixies that some people new to Guild Wars think they are, but they are not all that worst than the other races…
PS: As stated in the Ecology of the Charr, the Flame Legion did not remove females from the army because they thought they were inferior, but because when they initiated their cult of the Titans, the only one clever enough to sense something was wrong was a female leader, Bathea Havocbringer. So the equation became female = danger, and they therefore casted them out of the active service. You could say they were excluded because they were indeed SUPERIOR u_u
